A Slice of Panzano in Chianti

A hand-painted Tuscan landscape set within a fully finished wine cellar environment, where mural work and architectural illusion come together to create a seamless, immersive space.

Positioned within a winding stairwell vestibule, the piece captures a quiet moment in the Tuscan countryside ~ rolling hills, distant structures, and soft atmospheric depth inspired by the Chianti region. The composition was designed to draw the viewer forward , creating the feeling of looking beyond the wall into another landscape.
Surrounding the mural, the environment was carefully developed to support the illusion. Stone walls were hand-crafted using specialized materials and techniques to replicate the texture, depth, and irregularity of real masonry, enhancing the old-world character of the space.
Additional finishes throughout the cellar include aged, honey-toned stucco layered over a brich understructure. within these surfaces, sections of "exposed brick" were created to match the existing brickwork of the stairwell so precisely that, both visually and by touch, the transition between original and fabricated surfaces is indistinguishable.

These elements work together to blur the line between painted imagery and physical space, allowing the mural and surrounding architecture to exist as one cohesive environment.
This project reflects a comprehensive approach to surface design, where mural work, faux finishing, and architectural detail are integrated to create an immersive and authentic experience.
