Originally plain white cast molding, this fireplace mantel was transformed using a variation of a seven-step hand-painted wood-graining process to create the appearance of richly aged, carved wood. Layers of color, glazing, and detailed brushwork build depth into molded ornamentation, creating the warmth, grain variation, and character of an old wood surface.

The surrounding finishes were also created as a part of the room's overall design, including the layered wall finish, faux stone archway leading into the next room, and coordinating textured baseboard treatment created to mimic the large stone tiles of the floor.

Together, the finishes transform standard architectural materials into a cohesive, Old-World interior.
